Dog Training Instructor Courses Turn your interest in dogs into professional training skills McKaynine has been training dog trainers as well as dogs for more than 25 years. Our instructor education programme originally began as an in-house course for people wanting to teach at McKaynine. As its reputation grew, students from other training schools began enrolling too - and over the years, graduates have gone on to become instructors, establish their own dog training schools and contribute to canine education across South Africa. Today, the Learn Canine Instructor Course brings that practical experience together with modern, science-based knowledge of dog behaviour, learning and training. Whether you're considering a career as a dog trainer, already working with dogs, or simply want a much deeper understanding of canine training, the course provides a structured foundation in both the science and practical application of dog training. More Than a Dog Training Course Training dogs is only part of being a good instructor. A professional dog trainer also needs to understand how dogs learn, how to recognise behaviour and stress, how to teach people effectively, how to structure training exercises and how to apply theory to real dogs in real-life situations. The Learn Canine Instructor Course was developed with exactly that in mind. The course is designed for: Aspiring professional dog trainers Existing instructors wanting to strengthen their knowledge People working professionally with dogs Dog training assistants wanting to progress to instructor level Experienced dog owners wanting a deeper understanding of training and behaviour
Developed From Decades of Practical Experience The Learn Canine Instructor Course was developed by Shannon McKay MSc CBCC-KA®, founder of McKaynine Training. Shannon has worked professionally in canine training and behaviour since 1998 and combines academic study, behavioural research and decades of hands-on experience teaching dogs, owners and professional instructors. The course has evolved from the same instructor education programme used within McKaynine - where maintaining consistent, high training standards across instructors and branches has always been fundamental.
